Filipino Beef Pares
Pares or also known as Beef Pares is a popular street food among Filipinos. It is made from slow cooked tender beef in a dark rich sweet and savory broth. You would see stalls across the streets of manila every morning with two big pots scooping out some rice in one pot and the pares at the other. Street vendors usually gives you the option to have it with rice or with noodles which we call "Beef Pares with Mami", Mami refers to the fresh noodles. Pares is usually served with some spring onions on top and some crunchy fried garlic, you may also add some chili oil if you have a pallet for spicy food.
HOW TO MAKE BEEF PARES
Serving 2-3
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp Oil
3 Cloves Garlic
1 Medium Size Onion
1 Tbsp Ginger
500g Beef
2 pcs Star Anise
2 - 3 cups Water
2 Tbsp Cornstarch
1/4 cup Soy sauce
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Tsp Pepper
1/4 cup Brown Sugar
Procedure:
1. Add oil and saute garlic, onion and ginger until fragrant and onion are translucent.
2. Add beef and stir in for 5 mins
3. Add water, soy sauce, sugar and star anise. Simmer for 20-30 mins or until beef is tender
4. Add cornstarch in 1/4 cup of water and stir. Add in pot and stir until broth reach to a thicker consistency.
Serve and Enjoy!
Note: Best served with egg and fried rice. Add Chili oil or garnish with onion leaks
