Max's Sizzling Tofu - The Vegetarian Sisig


Max's Restaurant is one of the most well-known restaurants in the Philippines. it was established in 1945, after world war II. The restaurant is famously known for their specialty, the fried chicken. But over the years, Max's have come up with a vast menu selection. Thus, offering some vegetarian items on their menu. (Good news for our vegetarian friends!)

One of their vegetarian friendly item on their menu is the Sizzling Tofu. This dish is the vegetarian version of the Sizzling Sisig. So if you are vegetarian and would like to try sisig, This is the recipe for you! All it takes are some few easy steps and you'll have your own sizzling sisig at home.

How to make Max's Sizzling Tofu (Copycat version):

Ingredients:

For the Fried tofu:

500 grams Firm Tofu

1 cup Vegetable Oil

For the sauce:

1/2 cup Mayonnaise

3 tbsp Oyster Sauce

1/2 tsp Black Pepper

1/2 tsp Dried Parsley

1 tsp Sugar ( you may use white or brown)

2-3 tbsp Water

For Sauteing:

3 cloves Garlic, minced

1 medium size red onion, minced

2 Green Finger Chilies, cut Diagonally

1 Bird's eye chili, cut diagonally (optional)

3-4 tbsp Butter

Instructions:

1. Fry the tofu in a hot pan with oil until golden brown. then, set aside.

2. Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl, mix well, and set aside.

3. Melt the butter in the pan, then saute garlic, onions, and chilies.

4. Wait until ingredients are fragrant and onions are translucent.

5. Add the fried tofu and mix.

6. Finally add the sauce and reduce until thick consistency.

*It is best served in a sizzling plate just melt some butter on the sizzling plate and serve it while it's hot :)
